Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote
Lanzarote is a popular place for a villa holiday - well, all the Canary Islands make a good place to take a villa
holiday if the truth be told. Although a Spanish island, Lanzarote is close to the Sahara Desert, being just off the coast of North Africa.
This position makes Lanzarote a warm destination all year round - in fact, the Canary Islands are one of the few short-hall
destinations for some guaranteed sun during the spring and autumn season.
Puerto del Carmen is on the east coast of Lanzarote, about 6 kilometres from Arrecife Airport. All the buildings in
this part of Lanzarote are low-rise, with one and two storey villas being the main buildings around Puerto del Carmen. All the
villas are close to the restaurants, bars, shops and beaches - so you don't have to hire a car to make use of the local amenities.
Cycling is also very popular around this part of the world, with a 10 mile traffic free cycle route and footpath snaking round the coast all the
way up to Lanzarote's capital, Arrecife. There are plenty of shops to hire a bike from too.
